PRECAST / PRESTRESSED
CONCRETE PILES
Concrete Pile Foundations
Osborne Contractors installs precast and prestressed concrete piles for commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects across the Gulf Coast. Pile lengths, handling arrangements, delivery access and driving requirements all need to work together. Share the foundation drawings and geotechnical information so installation planning can be coordinated with material procurement and the construction schedule.

How Concrete Piles Are Installed
Precast piles are formed and cured before delivery to the jobsite. Prestressed concrete piles use tensioned steel reinforcement to introduce compression into the concrete. After delivery, the piles are positioned and driven to the project's acceptance criteria. Their design must account for service loads as well as handling and installation demands. Specified lifting points, support arrangements and driving procedures are therefore important parts of the work.
Start with the pile schedule and manufacturer requirements. Confirm the specified section, estimated lengths, reinforcement, connection details and any approved splice arrangements. Identify the submittals and reviews required before material release. If a design revision is expected, make that visible in the procurement plan before the piles are ordered.
At the site, plan a practical route for deliveries and a suitable area for unloading and storage. Review turning space, overhead obstructions, lifting access and the installation sequence. Tell the estimating team about phased releases, limited laydown space or deliveries that must occur outside normal work hours. Those constraints belong in the project discussion as early as the pile count does.
Concrete Pile FAQs
Are precast and prestressed concrete piles different?
Precast describes a pile manufactured before installation. Prestressed describes a reinforcement method used in many precast piles. A pile can be both precast and prestressed. Use the exact pile designation and reinforcing requirements from the drawings when requesting a quote or evaluating a substitution.
Can concrete pile lengths be changed in the field?
Length adjustments require planning. Cutoff work and any permitted extension or splice must follow the approved details and project requirements. Discuss the expected length range, test-pile program if specified, and change procedure before procurement so the commercial assumptions are clear.
Why does the quote need delivery and storage information?
Long concrete elements need suitable handling and support. Restricted access, limited storage or repeated handling can change the proposed sequence and cost. A site plan showing entrances, laydown space and installation areas helps the contractor and supplier understand the practical constraints before deliveries are scheduled.
